The Cherry Pie Songwriting Day is a creative and fun experience for 7-12 year olds, totally unique to Cherry Pie.  During the course of the day participants play a wide range of instruments, write their own song, and record it to take home on CD using our digital studio.

There really is nothing quite like the Cherry Pie Songwriting Day.  The morning follows a similar format to the Activity Morning, with children trying out a huge range of instruments under the supervision and guidance of our expert staff in a fun and laid-back environment.

In between playing instruments, the group work on each writing their own song, starting with a title, brainstorming, hook, chorus and finally verses.  Kids can write their songs about anything they choose and we work with the group throughout each part of the creative process to ensure their songs are as good as they possibly can be, whilst still totally and uniquely their own.

By lunchtime all the children have written their songs and are ready to start recording.  Normally we start by recording a piano or guitar part for each child's song ourselves, with the guidance of the child who will tell us how they want it to sound (faster, slower, happy, sad, in a given style and so on) until we have something they're happy with.  Participants then record themselves singing their song over the top and record onto the track any other instruments that they've enjoyed playing during the morning session.

We keep the recording process as flexible as possible, so sometimes children prefer to play all the instruments themselves, to have some of the other participants singing backing vocals on their song, or to do something we'd never even thought of before.  All the tools and versatility of our professional recording studio is at their disposal and the focus is on enabling kids to build up their own songs exactly as they want them to be without any limits.

Once all the recording is done we mix and master the songs in the recording studio.  Children have the choice of spending some more time playing their favourite instruments from the morning or working with the engineer in the studio to tweak their song in the mix and see how music is mixed and produced in a real recording studio.  Then we burn all the songs to CD ready for each child to take home.

The Songwriting Day is a totally unique experience that isn't available anywhere else.  As well as the fun and creativity on the day, children will keep the CD for years to come and often come back to do another song the next time we run the session.  To ensure we are able to maintain the creative freedom, versatility and individual attention of our Songwriting Days, places are strictly limited to 6 participants.
