Repertoire
The bass guitar has overtaken the double bass in popularity in modern music. It is used very widely today in rock, pop, jazz, blues, Latin and country music as part of the rhythm section, responsible for holding the harmonic framework of a piece of music together, whilst working with drums to control tempo. Bass guitarists read music from the bass clef, or some rely on chord charts. Music can also be read from ‘tablature’, a simple way of transcribing guitar music using numbers.
