The dreamy, fluttering sounds of the flute make it an incredibly satisfying instrument to learn. The modern flute is most commonly pitched in the key of C, but there are also larger low-pitched alto flutes, and the smaller high-pitched piccolo. The complicated fingering and breathing techniques, however, may be frustrating for complete beginners, so we’d suggest starting with the recorder.
