Dr Mizuka Yamamoto – Head of Strings – Violin and Piano

Mizuka studied at the Tokyo College of Music in Japan, the Royal College of Music, and Goldsmiths, University of London. She has performed J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto, Vivaldi’s Violin Concertos, Monti’s Czardas, Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, Pierre Boulez’ Anthèmes II as a soloist. She has worked with numerous living composers, and performed with many acclaimed pianists and conductors.

Mizuka recorded for CDs We Sing For The Future and Jung Ahh Fleisch released on Danny Dark Records, and also Isla with the Mercury Music Prize nominated jazz group Portico Quartet, released on Real World Records.

Apart from playing the violin, she plays the piano and viola, and has worked as a church organist. She is also a musicologist, and is a visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths as well as giving talks at international conferences. ‘An impassioned rendering of the Worker’s Song for solo violin and played by Mizuka Yamamoto, received the most powerful applause of the day.’
