Minimum requirements for music teachers
- Have or be studying towards a first degree level qualification in music or teaching (BA/BMus/PGCE etc) or hold DipABRSM or similar in teaching Grade 8 or equivalent standard on your first instrument. Most of our teachers are considerably higher.
- Competency in music theory, improvisation and sight reading appropriate to your instrument and style (you will be tested at approximately ABRSM grade 5 theory and improv, and grade 8 sight reading)
- Experience with children, preferably in a professional capacity
- A clean criminal record (we will carry out a CRB check if you do not already hold one)
You will also be tested on a wide range of personal qualities relating to teaching, interpersonal skills, professionalism, responsibility, child protection, organisation and so on. Further information will be forwarded to you before your interview and audition.
