Robin – Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute
Robin Porter is a saxophonist, composer and educator, graduate of the Leeds College of Music (LCoM) jazz course with first class honours and winner of ‘The George Murphy Trophy for Jazz Saxophone’ in 2013.
Robin is an active performer and has experience playing in some of the UK’s most prestigious venues; in 2012 he was selected to represent LCoM with his own group at the Steinway Hall (London); the following year his ensemble, The Porter Quartet, performed in the Royal Albert Hall ‘Elgar Room’ as part of the Proms Plus Late Sessions, which was later broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
Robin also takes a great interest in music education; he has taught instrumental lessons privately and through established institutions (Roundhay Music, Artforms, The New Model School Company), and he has run group workshops in jazz and improvisation (LCoM, Seven Arts, Heart).
In June 2014 Robin was awarded the ‘Career Development Bursary’ from LCoM, funding which has supported tuition with internationally renowned musician, Iain Dixon (Michael Brecker, Mike Walker, Julian Arguelles).
