Alasdair Pennington is a musician and composer based in London. In recent years he has established himself as a distinct and creative voice on the drum kit working predominantly within jazz and improvised music. He has performed and recorded with many eminent, international artists across genres including Helen Sung, Baptiste Herbin, Laura Jurd, Michael Dease, Dennis Rollins and The Flaming Lips among others. 

Alasdair has performed and recorded at venues and festivals across the UK and beyond including Leeds Town Hall, Manchester Jazz Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, EFG London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Vortex Jazz Club, The Leadmill, Cafe Oto, Porgy & Bess (Vienna), Jamboree Jazz Club (Barcelona) and Take 5 Jazz Club (California).

Alasdair released his debut album This Is on Hidden Threads Records in October 2024. The album has been described by Jazz Journal as “a highly listenable collection which in places harks back to the sound of American jazz from the 50s and 60s”and as a “cinematic jazz voyage” by Plastic Magazine. 

As a teacher and educator, Alasdair has worked for many organisations across London and beyond including Ealing Junior Music School, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Barking & Dagenham Music Hub and Falmouth Jazz Summer School. Alasdair is an endorsing artist for Bosphorus Cymbals.
